Many sites deal with circumcision - but some of these position themselves
firmly on the lunatic fringe and browsing through them provides more heat than
light.
The links here are chosen not for their stance for or against circumcision
but for the quality and usefulness of the information they contain. But of course, above all,
I have sought to find sites which are balanced in their attitude.
"The aim of this site is to provide information on all aspects involving male and infant circumcision that is based on recent scientific studies and general medical experience. Both the benefits and risks involving circumcision are discussed. It is not the aim of this site to tell parents to circumcise their infant sons, or to tell men that they need to be circumcised. These decisions can only be made by those directly involved. We therefore hope that everyone who is looking for unbiased information on the subject of circumcision, including prospective parents, will find the information presented on this site useful in making an informed decision."
The introduction to the site, which describes it better than I could.
A simple, non-flashy site providing balanced information for both parents making decisions about their baby sons and adults considering circumcision. Awarded by both ABCs of Parenting (4 star) and Britannica. Has a good selection of further links.
Very up to date, balanced and well-informed site. Essentially a link to the latest medical papers and newspaper articles about circumcision. ABCs of Parenting 3 star site.
Dr. Richard M. Parker, an American clinician specialising in pediatric urology, presents a simple guide to circumcision and to other matters affecting the male infant.
Unbiased information (much of it in concise tabular form) and a comprehensive and very well-organised guide to the literature.
The Jewish ritual of circumcision, called bris and performed by a trained mohel who is an expert in both the operation and its religious significance. Interesting reading for Jews and Gentiles alike.
A beautifully presented site by Dr. Edgar J. Schoen, a leading medical expert in the field of infant circumcision. Unashamedly in favour of circumcision but his viewpoint is based on a lifetime of research published in leading medical journals. Its 104 reference citations provide a good guide to the literature.
A very rough and ready piece of site construction, but it presents the papers and views of another leading figure in medical research into circumcision. A mine of information, again from a viewpoint strongly in favour of circumcision, and again based on sound medical research.
A very thorough and dense review of the literature by a professor of physiology, Brian Morris, author of the book 'In Favour of Circumcision'. A lot of text and few pictures makes this heavy reading but there's a lot of information packed in there.
A vehemently anti-circumcision site but it is beautifully constructed and has a huge and useful library of online references (perhaps indicating a bold disregard for matters of copyright). Well worth a visit.
